This page shows pictures of wedding dresses I have made and one or two other sewing projects.

Hazel

My wedding dress was a cream satin gown with large inset fish-tail train.  Embroidered lace trim, embellished with seed pearls, has been applied to the lower skirt  and train.  I couched some of the embroidered motifs on to the satin at neck, sleeves, upper skirt and train.  The style of the motifs was chosen to compliment an antique wedding veil which is made of a Brussel's Carrickmacross style lace and which has been handed down my mother's family from my great, great Aunt Peggy, to my mother, then myself and my sister.

My bridesmaids and page boy - with my mother as chaperone.

My sister Veronica's dress, made of Thai silk dupion in ivory.  The gown was princess line with an integral train and was decorated with embroidered trellis inserts around the hem and hand made cream and gold silk roses (to match my sister's bouquet).  My sister's bridesmaids were all in gold with ivory and cream roses.  The sleeves have been made of silk net with couched decoration to match our family's antique Carrickmacross style wedding veil.

I made the porcelain doll as a wedding present wearing a scaled down version of the dress - I painted the doll especially to match my sister's colouring including the wig which is made of mohair and dyed to my sister's hair colour.

This gown for my friend Jaqui was made of ivory satin and featured a trapunto decorative pannel aroung the skirt .  Trapunto is an italian style of shadow quilting where an outline is stitched between two layers of material and then padded with coloured wool.  The top layer is a very fine silk which allowed the colour of the wool to show through giving a very subtle 3-d effect.  Additional colour was added by piped lacing in 2 contrast colours at the cuffs, the back and these decorative pannels in the sleeves.  This dress did not have a train so I used machine embroidery to decorate the edge of a 10 foot long trailing veil.

This gown for my friend Dory was made in white satin with a fitted bodice, appliqued rose motifs and an integral train.  The under skirt was in satin and there were three layers of bridal net gathered on top decorated with satin rose motifs and lace edging.  Dory's veil was made of the same bridal net as the skirt and edged with machine embroidery.
